Contract timeline: August – November 2020
Objective:
To assess how the livelihoods and circumstances of women and men are affected by COVID-19 and its associated restrictions on movement. This includes specifically the economic impact including income, burden of care work, access to finance, ownership of businesses, use of mobile money, remittances, etc..
Scope of the assignment:
- The study reveals COVID-19 impacts and the implications of on-going interventions for the economic recovery plan by the government and development partners.
- From a gender perspective, different issues were addressed including effects of COVID-19 on women’s rights, access to services like health, education, water, and social protection and other basic services.
- Substantially, we suggest policy recommendations on how to continue strengthening gender equality and women’s empowerment in COVID-19 response and sector recovery plans. It is anticipated that the target users of this study’s results are the government of Rwanda, women leaders, CSOs, development partners, academia, research institutions, private sector, media, community mobilisers, healthcare workers, women’s rights organizations and relevant sectors organizations.
