Objective: The purpose of this assignment is to analyze the returns to agricultural commercialization among smallholder farmers in Rwanda through the design and implementation of a nationally representative household survey
Scope of the assignment:
HLC-L4D closely collaborates with IFPRI on the Commercialization Study as detailed below.
Contribution to the design and implementation of the Commercialization Study:
- Written contribution to the pre-analysis plan to be prepared jointly with IFPRI and other collaborators that shall include, but not be limited to: a review of literature; comments on appropriate theories, models, and testable hypotheses; and recommendations for econometric specifications and methods
- Written contribution to the survey design to be prepared jointly with IFPRI and other collaborators that shall include, but not be limited to: sampling strategy and frame; statistical power calculations; implementation protocol; instrument design in paper and SurveyCTO formats; informed consent form; and study approval, research permit, and survey visa applications to relevant authorities
- Active participation in the planning and implementation of field scoping visits to assess the effectiveness and improve the survey instrument
- Translation of the survey instrument from English to Kinyarwanda
- Coding of the survey instrument into SurveyCTO in collaboration with IFPRI
- Active participation in the planning and implementation of enumerator training and survey pre-testing
- Support to survey implementation through the facilitation of local approvals, the generation of village household lists, and continued communication with local government to ensure smooth data collection
