Role and objectives:

The UVI recruits university graduates and appoint them in sample villages to become focal persons of UVI in those villages. They work closely with Social Economic Development Officers (SEDOs) for community mobilization purpose. The following were the roles of UVI champions:

  • Contribute in development of skills at community level;
  • Provision of training with more focus on local cooperatives and farmer’s groups using pedagogical skills;
  • UVI intends to dispatch UVI champions (university graduates) to the sample villages to initiate development activities necessary to bring measurable changes for a period of one (1) year;
  • UVI champions are expected to share field experience, through presentations and reports, with experienced researchers and university lecturers;
  • They work in collaboration with Itorero interns (secondary student) to inform local authorities and other concerned partners the emerging local issues

Scope of work:

During the implementation of the SDG-UVI, a number of tasks will be performed. These include:

  • Gather baseline data for each indicator in each SDG-University Village; create baseline report and share this with all stakeholders;
  • Introduce the programme to District, Sector, and village leadership, to participant households and to wider village community;
  • Establish regular pattern of data collection depending on the nature and measurement;
  • Identify potential participative development support for the village.
  • Based on cumulative regular data transmission, prepare reports at agreed intervals during programme, feeding into policy review, academic research and village decision making.
  • Participate in Joint Action Development Forum at District level (comprising development partners, civil society organizations, and private sector operators), bringing trends and observations from data gathered and reports compiled.
